Our History
 

1989: Founded as J & K Conversions Limited, Cara Motorhomes began with John Lenihan’s vision to travel in comfort with his family, offering custom campervan conversions as an alternative to cramped car journeys.

 

2001: As demand grew, J & K Conversions evolved into Munster Motor Homes, focusing on the supply, repair, and service of motorhomes to meet the needs of a growing customer base.

 

2002: Munster Motor Homes became the main dealer for Dethleffs Motorhomes, a prestigious German manufacturer known for exceptional quality. Dethleffs has been a leader in the industry, offering superior warranties and being the top-selling motorhome brand in Germany since 2003.

 

2005: We expanded further by becoming the official importers and distributors of Pilote Motorhomes in Ireland, a French brand known for its style, quality, and over 45 years of expertise in motorhome manufacturing.

 

2007: Munster Motor Homes opened a second showroom in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, and rebranded to Cara Motorhomes to reflect our broader vision.

 

2008: Cara Motorhomes became the main importer and distributor for Sunlight and Rapido Motorhomes in Ireland. This year also marked our venture into the rental market, offering a fleet of leisure vehicles throughout Ireland.

 

2011: We expanded internationally, establishing Cara UK to bring our trusted service and high-quality motorhomes to the Midlands market, ensuring customer satisfaction as our highest priority.

 

2018: Cara opened a rental depot near Dublin Airport, providing international customers with convenient access to a wide range of motorhomes for exploring Ireland.

 

2019: We relocated to Coolanoran, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, an exciting step that allowed us to expand our offerings. Our new premises feature an indoor showroom, a dedicated McRent area, a fully stocked motorhome shop, and a cozy café for our customers to relax.

 

2021: Cara Motorhomes was appointed an official Fiat Professional Dealer, enhancing our ability to offer top-quality motorhome servicing and support.

 

2023: Cara was appointed as Ireland’s sole dealer for Carthago Motorhomes, a prestigious brand known for luxury and excellence.
